Gateways for Growth
By investing in the Chamber’s advocacy work you support initiatives that will have lasting impacts on our region. One such initiative is the Gateways for Growth Challenge, a partnership with New American Economy, Welcoming America, the City of Minneapolis, the City of Saint Paul and the Saint Paul Area Chamber. In September 2020 the Minneapolis Regional Chamber applied for and was awarded a Gateways for Growth Challenge grant, making us one of only 19 communities selected. This opportunity has allowed us to receive support from New American Economy and Welcoming America in the form of tailored research on the local economic contributions of immigrants in the City of Minneapolis that was released in June, as well as direct technical assistance to create a multi-sector strategic plan to improve immigrant inclusion in the City of Minneapolis. The strategic planning process gives us the opportunity engage partner organizations and community members across the city to develop a comprehensive set of recommendations to improve immigrant and refugee inclusion in areas including civic engagement, government leadership, access to housing, healthcare, education workforce and economic development, education, amongst others. The Gateways for Growth Challenge allows the Chamber to take a leadership role in leveraging our influence and network to gather input on what immigrants and refugees in the Twin Cities say they need to truly be successful, then put those recommendations in front of the leaders who have the power to make those changes. The strategic plan will be released in early 2022.
