If anything sets this region apart, it is the power of its educated workforce. More than 90% of the state’s adult population has a least a high-school diploma (#1 in the nation). The number of residents with two-year or four-year degrees is also among the best in the country. At the center of this success is the University of Minnesota. The school attracts excellent faculty and students and a very high proportion of graduates choose to remain in the Metro area.
Recognizing that the availability of qualified workers is one of the most important factors driving economic development, the Minneapolis Regional Chamber offers a number of workforce development programs. These are designed to help our existing residents reach top academic levels and provide assistance and training to those who choose to relocate here.
At the high-school level, the Chamber initiated the Voyager Program and is a strong supporter of the STEP-UP Minneapolis youth employment program, a partnership between the City of Minneapolis and AchieveMpls, which provides work readiness training certified by the Chamber and high-quality internships. These programs help students create a personal plan for high school, provide the tools they will need to execute that plan and the opportunity to work in the business community prior to graduation.
For those relocating to Minneapolis Saint Paul, the Chamber administers a Leadership Twin Cities program.
